We're happy to announce a new addition to our team, welcoming Master Stylist & President and Co-founder of Trade Up!NYC, LLCSarah Rappolt into the ION Studio family.
Sarah's decision to go to cosmetology school in lieu of graduate school was partly based on her experience in working at a women’s homeless shelter in Washington DC where many of the women had little to no skill set.
She graduated from the Vidal Sassoon Academy for Hair and Cosmetology in Santa Monica, CA in 2002. After a brief stint in Beverly Hills, she moved back to the East Coast to work for Bumble and Bumble for 12 years becoming a senior stylist and lead educator. She aided in developing the curriculum for a variety of technical classes, as well as an enrichment series teaching stylists the ins and outs of the business.
In 2008 she developed a community outreach program initiating partnerships with local not for-profit organizations to bring skills and services to those in need. She worked closely with the First Step Program, a subsidiary of the Coalition for the Homeless, providing makeovers for previously homeless women completing a job training program.
In 2013 Sarah founded a not-for-profit organization. Trade Up!NYC, LLC is a not-for-profit after school Cosmetology program servicing at-risk junior and senior high school students in Brooklyn, New York. Doors are set to open in 2016, and it will be providing students the necessary technical training in Cosmetology, as well as life and professional skills, to succeed in the beauty industry.
